Peanut butter is my weakness; it’s truly addictive. That’s why I only buy it occasionally because I can finish a whole jar in a day. Besides, it’s not exactly cheap, at least not here in Spain.
Peanut butter is usually made with peanuts, hydrogenated oils, and salt, so it’s not exactly a light and healthy food. That’s why this homemade peanut butter is perfect. You can make a small batch to avoid eating it all; it doesn’t contain oils or salt, just peanuts. While it’s still quite high in fat, it’s the healthiest option we can eat, and it’s delicious.
Peanut butter is often eaten with jam, and in this case, we’ve added blueberry jam, one of my favorites. Blueberries, besides being delicious, have many health benefits.

What I love most about this peanut butter, besides its flavor, is that you only need peanuts, a blender, and two minutes to make it. And if that weren’t enough, it’s the best peanut butter I’ve ever tasted.
I love eating it with bread, but you can also prepare delicious recipes with it such as:
- Cookies
- Ice cream
- Porridge with blueberries and peanut butter
Homemade peanut butter can be a more appealing way for children to eat legumes, although these types of foods shouldn’t be overindulged, and ideally, it should be homemade to avoid hydrogenated oils and excess salt. Our health is very important, and it’s not necessary to spend hours in the kitchen to eat well. In fact, it takes less time to make this butter than to buy it, and its flavor is fantastic.

How to Make Homemade Peanut Butter?
Ingredients
For a jar of peanut butter:
| Ingredient | Quantity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Raw, unsalted, shelled peanuts | 250g | They can be raw; I prefer to roast them myself |
| Oil | 1 teaspoon | Olive oil recommended |
| Sugar | 1 teaspoon | Optional |
| Salt | ½ teaspoon | Optional |
How to Make Peanut Butter in 5 Steps:
Follow the steps and you’re all set:
- Place the peanuts in a pan over medium heat for about 5 minutes, until toasted. Stir continuously to prevent burning (burning will make the peanut butter bitter). If you’ve purchased pre-toasted peanuts, skip to step 2.
- Place the roasted peanuts in a blender or a container suitable for use with an immersion blender. Add a teaspoon of olive oil; you can also use sunflower oil or any other oil, but olive oil will give it a special flavor. Remember, it’s only a teaspoon, as the peanuts will release their own natural oils.
- Optionally, add a teaspoon of sugar or honey and a pinch of salt. This is to taste. If you only use peanuts, the peanut butter will be delicious too.
- Begin blending, starting slowly to break down the peanuts. Stop the blender occasionally and scrape down the sides of the mixture with a spatula, then continue blending. Repeat these steps until the mixture is completely creamy (this will take approximately 5 minutes). This peanut butter consistency comes from the peanut oil itself.
- Finally, jar it. You can sterilize jars so your peanut butter lasts longer. And there you have it—creamy and delicious.
