How To Fold A Fitted Sheet? Step By Step

Sheets for a small bed, like a crib, might be easy to fold, but those for larger beds, like a double bed, are a bit more complicated to get neatly folded.

Let’s see how to fold sheets simply and, above all, correctly.

Folding sheets correctly means that when you put them on the bed, they won’t be excessively wrinkled. Not everyone irons their sheets after they’ve dried, so it’s essential to know how to fold them to avoid wrinkles and to save space when you store them.

Let’s not forget that there are two types of sheets: the fitted sheet (which has elastic) and the flat sheet. Let’s see how to fold them all.

Steps to fold sheets easily

Folding a fitted sheet

A fitted sheet is a sheet that has elastic sewn around all four sides and is designed to fit snugly around the four corners of the mattress.

The fitted sheet is held in place by the mattress itself, and the excess material is tucked under the mattress to create a soft sleeping surface.

To fold this type of sheet:

  1. Take one of the fitted corners and fold it over the other corner, so they are tucked inside each other.
  2. Then, fold the first two corners to the other end (without letting go) and repeat this step for the other two corners.
  3. Now, bring the first two corners together at the front with the other two (your hands should be inside each group of corners).
  4. Bring the sides together, and you’ll see that a large square is formed.
  5. If you lay the fitted sheet flat, you can finish adjusting and folding it.
  6. Fold from the bottom to the center and from the top to the center.
  7. Now fold one side over the other.

Folding a flat sheet

  1. Fold it in half lengthwise, bringing the top and bottom corners together.
  2. Now, starting at the narrow end (head and foot), gather the corners and fold them in half.
  3. Now fold it into thirds, leaving you with a narrow piece.
  4. Place the sheet on a flat surface, then take the bottom section and fold it to the center.
  5. Next, take the top section and fold it to the center as well.
  6. Now fold the bottom section over the top, and you’re done!

Folding a pillowcase

  1. Turn it inside out, place it on a flat surface, and then put the fitted sheet and the top sheet (which you’ve already folded to the center) on top.
  2. Cover with the bottom sheet, wrap it with the top sheet, and when you turn it right side out, open the corner of the pillowcase and tuck the sheets inside.

This way, your sheets are folded correctly. You can store them all together in the closet without them taking up too much space, and you’ll never lose a set of sheets again!
