Protective cases made of silicone, plastic, or leather protect smartphones from damage if dropped. These cases have to withstand a lot of wear and tear and often start to look worn after a while. But in most cases, phone cases can be easily cleaned. We’ll show you how!

Why should you clean your phone case?
Stained, greasy, or yellowed phone cases are anything but attractive. For one thing, due to constant contact with hands, the inside of bags, and all sorts of surfaces, germs and bacteria accumulate on the device, so it’s important to disinfect it to use the phone hygienically. In addition to cleaning and disinfecting the phone itself, you should also clean and disinfect the case from time to time.
On the other hand, dust, crumbs, and other small debris can hide under the protective cover, which can scratch your phone due to constant friction. Reason enough to clean your phone case regularly?
How to clean a plastic mobile phone case?
The best way to clean your mobile phone case will depend on the type of material and how dirty it is. Plastic phone cases are the easiest to clean. A slightly damp Ballerina cloth will suffice. If it’s very dirty, you can also add a drop of Estrella Oxygeno Active disinfectant or hand soap.
If there are crumbs inside the case, you can use a soft brush or paintbrush for pre-treatment. However, be especially careful with harsh household cleaners and nail polish removers containing acetone: these can seriously damage the plastic.
How to clean a silicone mobile phone case?
Silicone is one of the most widely used materials in protective cases for mobile phones: it’s soft, fits the phone’s shape well, and also provides good shock absorption if the phone is dropped.
Another advantage of silicone phone cases is that they are easy to clean: the material doesn’t scratch and is also resistant to water, cleaning agents, and, to some extent, heat. The best way to clean your silicone phone case is with a damp cloth or sponge. We recommend rubbing it firmly and, if necessary, using a little detergent or isopropyl alcohol.
A dirt eraser is also often helpful if the case has stains. For more stubborn dirt, you can even wash your silicone phone case in the washing machine on a gentle cycle at a maximum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius. Just remember to remove your phone first!
Regular cleaning to prevent yellow stains on transparent phone cases
Many people don’t like hiding their phone’s design under a thick case and opt for a clear one. If you’re one of them, take note. Cleaning these types of cases often becomes a thankless task.
The problem: the typical yellowing is caused by sweat, oily residue, and sunlight, and it’s usually permanent. Regularly cleaning your phone case can prevent yellowing, but once it’s yellowed, it’s difficult to reverse.
Therefore, our advice is not to procrastinate cleaning these cases, but to make it a bi-weekly routine. You can follow the same steps we explained for cleaning plastic cases.
How to clean leather and wood cases?
Wooden or leather phone cases are the most elegant. If this type of material gets stained, we recommend following the cleaning instructions for any item made from these materials.
In the case of wooden cases, you can use a damp cloth with a few drops of a common cleaner or a bleach-free disinfectant cleaner like Estrella Oxygeno Activo, but never apply the product to the case, only to the cloth.
Shoe polish or special wood care products are also suitable for cleaning mobile phone cases. However, the use of harsh detergents and/or abrasive brushes or sponges is not recommended for this type of material.
