Cake pops are a real eye-catcher at any coffee table. I’ve been following this trend for quite some time now, and I think the little cake lollipops are simply super stylish! Until now, however, I’ve never made any myself, as I don’t have a cake pop maker. But now I’ve discovered that these little cakes on a stick are incredibly easy to make even without one. I’ll share the recipe with you in this blog post. 🙂
These little cake pops are incredibly versatile when it comes to decorating and they taste absolutely delicious. Whether you use dark or white chocolate, marzipan or icing – cake pops offer so many possibilities and plenty of room for creativity. To be honest, at first I thought making them without a cake pop maker would be quite complicated. But it wasn’t at all; you just have to keep a few tricks in mind. I’d even say you could bake these cake pops together with your kids.
Recipe: Cake Pops (without Cake Pop Maker)
(for approx. 20 pieces)
Ingredients:
- 175 g butter
- 150 g sugar
- 1 packet of vanilla sugar
- 2 eggs
- 125 g flour
- 1 pinch of baking powder
- Sprinkles
- 1 pack of chocolate or couverture
- Alternatively: icing sugar and water
- approximately 20 wooden or plastic skewers
Preparation:
Step 1:
To bake a pound cake: Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F). Cream together 125g butter, 100g sugar, 1 packet of vanilla sugar, and the eggs. Then mix the flour with the baking powder and add it to the mixture. Stir everything well and pour the batter into a baking pan. Bake the cake for about 20 minutes and let it cool. If you’d like to skip this step, you can simply buy a ready-made pound cake.
Step 2:
Crumble the cooled cake into a large bowl. Add 50g of softened butter and 50g of icing sugar and knead everything together well. Then form small balls and place them on a large plate or similar surface. Tip: The balls are even easier to shape with moistened hands. Place the finished balls in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Ideally, you should even put them in the freezer for about 15 minutes before the next step. Chilled, the cake pops are super easy to work with, and the next step will be a breeze.
Step 3:
In the meantime, gather all your decorating supplies. Let your creativity run wild! Prepare your sprinkles in small bowls. You can coat the cake pops with icing, chocolate, or couverture. Melt the icing in a double boiler and have the wooden skewers ready as well.
Step 4:
Then take the cake pops out of the refrigerator or freezer and you’re ready to go. Place each ball onto a wooden skewer and dip it in the chocolate or couverture. Next, you can roll them in the provided sprinkles or sprinkle them on by hand. Make sure to dip the skewer completely beforehand, so that the chocolate covers the bottom of the stick as well. This will ensure the mini cake stays securely on the skewer.
Step 5:
Finally, the cake pops need to dry completely. You can do this by inserting them into a piece of Styrofoam or cardboard. Alternatively, you can place them on an edge so they’re suspended in the air and secure the sticks with a heavy object. You can also try placing them in a glass. Just be careful that they don’t touch each other or tip over. And there you have it – cake pops!
