How to Make Korean Corn Dogs?

The literal translation of the title would be Gluten-Free Corn Dogs… it sounds like a movie title…

As you can see, it’s this delicious treat that everyone loves.

How to Make Korean Corn Dogs

When sausages came up as an ingredient for the “Your Recipes” challenge, a million ideas came to mind. They’re so versatile! I have to say that we eat them often at home in many different dishes, but they’re most often used in a tomato and fried egg dish—we absolutely love them with sausages.

This time, I wanted to do something different, and since I didn’t want to add gluten to something that’s already gluten‑free, and because it’s much healthier, I decided on this cornmeal batter, which gives it a wonderful flavor.

If you want to make them with gluten, you’ll need to add less flour so they’re easy to dip.

Wheat flour0.5 cup
Panko (Japanese breadcrumbs)1 cup
Sugar2 tablespoons
Baking powder2 teaspoons
Salt0.5 teaspoon
Oil1 cup

Preparation: Korean‑style hot dogs

Preparation: 15 min | Cooking: 5 min | Total time: 20 min | Serving: 6

  1. Skewer the sausages with long wooden skewers. Place a slice of mozzarella around each one. Put it in the refrigerator while you do the rest.
  2. In a bowl, combine the flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, salt, and baking powder. Mix well. Add the milk and egg. Combine all the ingredients and mix thoroughly until you have a smooth, uniform dough. It should be thick and sticky. Refrigerate for a few minutes to ensure the dough is thoroughly chilled.
  3. Heat the oil for frying. Pour the batter into a tall glass jar. This will make it easier to coat the hot dogs. Dip the hot dogs in the batter, making sure they are well coated. Coat them in panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Fry the hot dogs in hot oil for a few minutes or until golden brown. Remove them from the heat to paper towels and sprinkle with a pinch of sugar.
  5. Pair your Korean‑style hot dogs with your favorite sauces such as ketchup, mustard, or spicy mayonnaise.
