Healthy Hot Fudge Sauce Recipe

Chocolate sauce doesn’t have to be forbidden on a weight control diet, as long as it’s not consumed in excess and you choose a fat‑free and sugar‑free version like the one we propose today. There’s nothing better than making your own light chocolate sauce to sweeten your breakfasts, desserts and snacks. We’ll give you the recipe.

One of the things that chocolate lovers enjoy most is chocolate sauce, because with it we can add more flavor and another texture to all kinds of cakes, tarts, pastries, brownies or cupcakes like these, no matter if the main flavor is chocolate, you can always add more.

And of course, chocolate sauce is also ideal for topping ice cream, crepes, pancakes, fruit, breakfast cereals (preferably oatmeal or similar, for health reasons), panna cottas, flans… but of course, a normal chocolate sauce usually has fats and sugar, we can give you as an example two syrup or sauce recipes that we have shared with you, this one with cream, and this one that does not contain dairy.

Well, since we need to take care of our diet and also try to enjoy what we like, we can make healthier versions of even these kinds of sauces, and that’s what we’re going to show you today: how to make a fat‑free and sugar‑free chocolate sauce.

It doesn’t have zero calories, but it has far fewer than if you add cream or other dairy (although those who prefer a less intense chocolate sauce can add a little skim milk) and sugar. Try it because you’re going to love it.

Ingredients

IngredientQuantity
Pure cocoa powder (defatted and unsweetened)50 grams
Water150‑180 grams
Sweetenerto taste
Vanilla extract (optional)to taste

Step by Step:

  1. Heat the water in a saucepan on the stove or in a small jug in the microwave; it does not need to boil.
  2. Put the cocoa powder in a bowl and add the hot water, mix well with a spoon or small whisks, until the cocoa is completely dissolved and you have a thick chocolate sauce.
  3. The sauce can be made thinner or thicker, according to taste and needs, by varying the amount of water. Keep in mind that it will thicken more as it cools, so it should be quite thin at first.
  4. Once the cocoa has dissolved, add the sweetener and, if desired, the vanilla extract.
  5. Transfer the light chocolate sauce to a squeeze bottle or a jar with a lid to store it and use it with your desserts, breakfasts, or snacks. It’s delicious!
