How to Style Wavy Hair?

I know that fine hair can be a little difficult to manage, especially if it tends to frizz.

This happens in cases of wavy or curly hair that is not very heavy.

I know this type of hair very well because it’s what I have. It’s not that it’s fine, it’s so fine it almost looks like baby hair.

And as the saying goes, the tiger’s offspring are striped, and my youngest daughter has this type of hair.

And if we add to the fine hair the fact that it is between 3 and 6 years old, we will find many small hairs all over the head.

At first, brushing her hair was a real struggle. The hair slipped through my fingers, and since it’s wavy, it would frizz up as soon as I brushed it. It was hard to get straight lines; the hairs kept getting mixed up from one side to the other, and they would tangle up so easily. It was madness!

Hairstyle for fine hair

But little by little, I’ve gotten the hang of her hair, and now it’s no trouble at all to style it.  And if I can save you from going through the same thing, I’d be so happy, and I’m sure you would be too.

So, without further ado, here are my tips for treating this type of hair, so your little girl can have great hairstyles.

How to prepare your hair before styling?

Fine hair tends to get oilier than normal hair. Therefore, apply conditioner only to the mid-lengths and ends, avoiding the scalp.

As for frizz, there are several products that help prevent it. Recently, many shampoos and conditioners specifically formulated for frizz and containing argan oil have come onto the market.

When I recommend this wonderful oil, I laugh because I remember a movie called “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” where the protagonist’s father used window cleaner for everything.

Last week, I went to a hair product store to ask for advice on hair products, and I mentioned that I used Argan Oil. Their response was, “That’s more than enough for you.”

Essential steps before starting the hairstyle.

I’m not a big fan of styling wet hair, as I prefer it to look as natural as possible. But in this case, I use a water diffuser to slightly dampen the front section, making it easier to secure the short hairs in that area.

Have several clips and hair ties handy, because to make styling your hair easier, you’ll need:

  • You need to be clear about the hairstyle you’re going to create.
  • Make the necessary sections and ensure they are neatly arranged to prevent the hair from getting tangled. This point is very important.

Which hairstyles are flattering?

What you need to keep in mind is that you shouldn’t spend too much time doing the hairstyle, since girls of that age find it quite difficult to stay still, especially at the beginning.

Once they get used to the morning hair routine, they won’t move around as much (I say this from experience).

It’s important that the hairstyles are fun and decorated. They usually love high ponytails (one or two), buns, Pippi Longstocking-style braids…

Once you have more experience, I recommend using the fishtail braid, as it gathers hair very well and hides short hairs. You can braid it halfway down your hair or all over it.

You can find an example in this video, where you will clearly see all the tips indicated and even verify that braids are also a good way to disguise cowlicks, which are so annoying when styling hair.

And that’s all for my weekly contribution. I hope you found it very useful.

Next week, I’ll post a tip on how to wash your hair properly so it gets really clean and avoids tangles.
